I believe access to health care is a right. People get sick and hurt everyday but not all of them have insurance or can afford to go to the doctor. If our government would allow the citizens to go to a primary doctor of their choice and not have to pay, more people especially women, would probably go for preventable care. The people should be educated about illnesses and how going to a doctor for regular check ups can help catch certain illnesses and diseases early. Take the United Kingdom and how their health care works. Their citizens are allowed a certain level of care. If anything goes beyond the guidelines of the level, they have the option to buy supplemental insurance. America could do something similar. If some one needs supplemental insurance, their cost should be according to their income. Just because some makes less than another person, it should not mean they cannot afford insurance. There are many women who do make much money, so they can't afford to go to a doctor. Some of these women will even die because of this.

  1. I think that is great that the UK offers supplemental insurance! I have never looked into that. Why can't that we try that out? I really have to agree with you that healthcare is important mainly for prevention of diseases. There are somethings that people are born with that makes them use healthcare to improve their quality of life and there are others that wish to have resources to prevent or detect diseases and cancers.

  2. Amy,
I like your idea of the United States providing Supplemental insurance for those who cannot afford regular insurance. Healthcare these days is very expensive and can be a privilege for those of us who have jobs that offer it.If someone isn't provided the opportunity to have insurance, I believe it should be a option for an affordable alternative. I also believe that prevention of diseases is important because it can solve many issues for everyone who can or cannot afford healthcare.

  3. I think you are right about women not seeking healthcare because of cost. Our pastor told us today a story of a lady who killed her two children and herself because she thought she had cancer like her mother and couldn't go through all that that entails again. How many women don't seek healthcare because they are afraid the doctor's will find something major wrong with them and they know they can't afford treatment?
